When Does a Prayer Become a Prayer?

This country, founded by religious men based upon Judaic-Christian values evolved into one that now prevents students from even reading a simple prayer at their high-school graduation.

Knowing the reputation of many Americans having something called Yankee ingenuity; consider the following commencement speech given by a young lady at her high-school graduation.

=============================================================
Good afternoon parents, family, friends, and fellow students. I specifically welcome my mother whose husband I call Dad could not attend today. So, I wrote my father the following letter:

Dear Father,

This is the day you made for me. All things possible are on display at this ceremonial gathering and I thank-you.

Father, you know me better than I know myself. You have guided my every step throughout my young life. You have shown me wisdom, given love and tenderness whether I needed it or not, and continuous firmness whether I wanted it or not.

Many of my fellow students have come to know you. They are here with me today and also express their gratitude.

As we leave this graduation today and begin our lives as young adults, keep us within your loving thoughts. Continue to provide your strength and forgiveness when any of us stray from your example. Accept my and my fellow classmates’ heartfelt thanks.

All of our love,

Amenda
